Blanch & Shock was commissioned by the Kindle Theatre Company to produce a menu informed by the narrative of their installation theatre piece,
Eat Your Heart Out , over ten nights in November Over three warehouses in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham the audience was led by the Royal Cooks of a devastated kingdom through an elaborate, labrynthine post-apocalyptic junk-world, culminating in a dinner 'performed' by the cooks.
The Menu started with a fizzy fish pill, the eating of which allowed passage into the dining room. There followed a stew made of pig hearts,ox kidneys and pig liver, served with black pudding, kale and beetroot foam. For those left hungry after such challenges, a kilner jar containing a Pumpkin Seed Bavarois, Pumpkin Compôte, Quince Dyrup and edible flowers was served, with Alderwood smoke rising from the jars when opened. In the final stages of the run, the bavarois was replaced by an edible 'soil' composed of powdered Bitter Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Truffles, Chilli Candies and Snapdragon Flowers.
